Nebraska, is a variation on the archaic Otoe words Ñí Brásge, pronounced [ɲĩbɾasꜜkɛ], or the Omaha Ní Btháska, pronounced [nĩbɫᶞasꜜka], meaning flat water, after the Platte River flowing through the state. Indigenous peoples, including Omaha, Missouria, Ponca, Pawnee, Otoe, and various branches of the Lakota (Sioux) tribes have inhabited the region. Nebraska is now home to nearly 2 million people and has a large agriculture sector producing beef, pork, wheat, corn, soybeans, and sorghum.
