The Midwest Alliance for Mindfulness (MAM) values community and understands the importance of practicing together. We offer weekly mindfulness practice meetings to our members and the general public. Meetings are led by a rotating group of mindfulness professionals and offer an opportunity to start, build, maintain or deepen a practice and connect with like-minded individuals. Having trouble maintaining a personal practice? Our weekly meetings can contribute to participation in our Annual Meditation Challenge.
Mindful Movie Night
The Midwest Alliance for Mindfulness is organizing a special screening of MANTRA – Sounds into Silence, a feature-length, lush documentary exploring the music and social phenomenon of chanting. Mantra can be a useful tool for meditation helping to set intentions and focus concentration – plus, it can be such a joyful practice! This documentary shares the stories of people who are finding healing and a sense of inner peace by singing mantras together with others just like them. It’s a film about spirituality not religion – about people reconnecting with their authentic selves and with others.
Thursday May 10th at 7:30 pm at Leawood Town Center 20. Tickets are $11.50 and your credit card will not be charged unless enough people purchase tickets to make it a go. View the trailer and purchase your tickets here: https://gathr.us/screening/22902
Instead of our usual 7 pm donation based community practice meeting at Seeking Solace on May 10th, we are opening our 6 pm MAM members group to the general public. Come practice with us and then join us for the film afterwards – we hope to see you there!
Biannual Community Mixer
Twice per year we invite the local community to gather with us to get to know each other, learn about our organization, ask questions, and share what we have to offer. This meeting is FREE and open to the general public, because MAM values community! Come meet our teachers and share some refreshments:
- Friday July 13th between 11:30 – 1 pm at the Johnson County Library branch located at 8100 Mission Prairie Village Road 66208 Friday
We will offer a brief practice and provide information about MAM offerings and membership. Its helpful to us if you register in advance so we know how many to expect.
Donation-Based Practice Meetings
Our donation based meetings are FREE and open to the public. There is no fee and any donations go to the hosting location. The facilitators are volunteers and take no payment for their services. Meetings may include guided meditation, mindful walking or eating, mindful yoga (gentle), community discussion, or some combination of these practices. Some meetings are family friendly and some are meant for adults. If you are participating in our meditation challenge you will want to pre-register online – if not, just show up with your yoga mat (some spares are available, rental fees may apply). Bring a meditation cushion or bench if you use one. Chairs and props may be available depending on the location.
- Tuesdays from 7-8 pm at Cornerstones of Care – Spofford Campus
- Thursdays from 7-8 pm at Seeking Solace Yoga
MAM Member Practice Meetings
As a benefit of membership, MAM offers a weekly practice meeting for its members. Meetings are guided by trained mindfulness teachers. Each meeting begins with gentle mindful movement to prepare the body for stillness, shifts into a period of minimally guided meditation, and ends with inquiry and discussion. Participants are invited to wear comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat and meditation cushion. Props, chairs and rental mats are also available on location.
- Thursdays from 6:00 – 6:45 pm at Seeking Solace Yoga in Overland Park, KS (please preregister to save your spot)
MAM membership offers many benefits beyond the weekly practice group. Visit our membership page to connect with our growing community of mindfulness professionals and practitioners. You can also join us online on Facebook.
